Hivers and Strivers Venture Capital for Veterans fund invests in veteran-run start-ups at an early stage, awarding grants ranging from $250K to $1M every funding cycle. The founders of this angel investment firm were a group of military academy graduates who established this venture to invest in veteran-owned businesses.
Please note that it is neither a charity nor a non-profit organization. These are informed business investors who also happen to be veterans looking to make a profit on the businesses they have invested in. The Hivers and Strivers fund has regularly achieved a return on investment of 20% or more on the businesses they fund.
There is a high level of qualification required. HIVERS & Strivers seek leaders with a proven track record of leadership both inside and outside the military who have served in the armed forces, have graduated from military academies, and have obtained advanced degrees after leaving the military.

Your business must have annual gross revenue of less than $5 million. The deadline for submitting applications is April 15th.

Atlanta Open For Business Fund
Atlanta, Georgia, offers several programs for entrepreneurs and small business owners. The Façade Improvement Grant from the Bureau of Business and Economic Development offers up to $50K for your businesss exterior improvements. The Commercial Ownership Growth program is another option that provides up to $200K to aid in a down payment on a real estate purchase. The program opens in the summer of 2022. How Do You Know If Your Business Is Eligible
To qualify, your business must have been negatively impacted in either of the following ways:
- A government authority required partial or full shutdown of your business during 2020 or 2021. This includes your operations being limited by commerce, inability to travel or restrictions of group meetings.
- Gross receipt reduction criteria is different for 2020 and 2021, but is measured against the current quarter as compared to 2019 pre-COVID amounts.
- A business can be eligible for one quarter and not another.
- Initially, under the CARES Act of 2020, businesses were not able to qualify for the ERC if they had already received a Paycheck Protection Program loan. With new legislation in 2021, employers are now eligible for both programs. The ERC, though, cannot apply to the same wages as the ones for PPP.

We know that your business may be experiencing disruptions resulting from the global outbreak of COVID-19. The City of South Fulton has allocated $500,000 in CARES Act funding to provide cash grants to help businesses during this challenging time. The maximum grant amount will be $19,000.
The City of South Fulton has partnered with Micro Village Fund to administer and award grant funds.

Do We Still Qualify If We Remained Open During The Pandemic
Yes. To qualify, your business must meet either one of the following criteria:
- Experienced a decline in gross receipts by 20%, or
- Had to change business operations due to government orders
Many items are considered as changes in business operations, including shifts in job roles and the purchase of extra protective equipment. The ERC, in this case, also applies only for Q3 and Q4 of 2021. Businesses can qualify, regardless of the number of full-time employees.

The ERC is one of the new stimulus programs established by the CARES Act designed to support businesses who were able to retain their employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, like the PPP loans of before with one big difference. The ERC is not a loan, meaning you dont have to worry about paying anything back this program is here to help.
What Period Does The Program Cover
The program began on March 13th, 2020 and continues to September 30th, 2021 for eligible employers.
You can apply for refunds for 2020 and 2021 after December 31st of this year, into 2022 and 2023. And potentially beyond then too.
We have clients who received refunds only, and others that, in addition to refunds, also qualified to continue receiving ERC in every payroll they process through September 30, 2021, at about 30% of their payroll cost.

The Coronavirus severely affected underserved businesses, specifically those owned by Blacks. Through the Coalition to Back Black Businesses Fund, which runs through 2023, grant monies worth $5K are provided to black-owned businesses that qualify.

Mastercard has partnered up with The Fearless Fund to present the Fearless Strivers Grant Contest, where grants totaling $10K will be awarded to 11 businesses within the United States. There are several requirements to qualify for this program, including being a woman-owned business that makes less than $3M per year, has fewer than 50 employees, and has been in business since February 10, 2022. Every month is a new opportunity to apply for the grant, so make sure you apply for this grant program every month.
Wish Local Micro Grants
With Wish Local, buyers and sellers come together in one place, enabling more sales for businesses. Wish Local has established a $2 million fund to support Black businesses, which will provide grants of up to $2,000 to eligible businesses. You might want to check out the Wish Local grant if you own a business owned by a Black owner, make less than $1 million annually, and have less than 20 employees. Georgia Small Business Expenses
There are many challenges involved in starting and managing a small business in Georgia. In Georgia, more than $136.63 billion is allocated to the salaries/benefits of employees, and more than 77,809 businesses declare bankruptcy every year. Even though the federal government does not publicly provide grants for business owners to start and grow their ventures, the Georgia government provides several small business grants to entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.
Online Application For Decaturs Small Business Grants Opens November 11
The City of Decatur and the Decatur Development Authorities have announced the creation of a small business grant program in response to the financial challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of $400,000 will be granted from funding made available to the local government through the CARES Act.
Any small business in Decatur employing between one and 50 full-time or full-time equivalent employees is eligible, so long as they were open and operational as of March 1, 2020. Depending on various factors in the application process, including the number of full-time employees, eligible businesses will be considered for a grant of up to $25,000.
The grants are being administered by the DDA, and businesses interested in applying are encouraged to visit Decaturs for updates and for the grant guide. The online portal to submit an application will open at 8 a.m. on November 11, 2020, and the deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on November 25, 2020. In the event that the grant fund is over-subscribed, a lottery method will be used to select which businesses from the group of qualified applicants will receive the grant. Grant distributions are expected by the end of December.
The DDA has also created an interactive webpage detailing which local businesses are remaining open during the COVID-19 pandemic and their updated operating hours, which can be accessed through decaturga.com.
