Benefits Of Tuition Incentive Program Phase Ii
Phase II provides tuition assistance valued at up to $2,000, to be applied to completion of a four year degree. Awards are reserved for tuition payments only. Incentives are disbursed in $500 increments, at the beginning of each semester. In addition to general eligibility requirements for Phase I, students participating in Phase II must meet additional standards. Phase II candidates require 56 transferable academic semester credits, at the time of application. An associate’s degree or certificate is also required, in order to continue into the second phase of the Incentive Program.

General Motors funds various community initiatives, including STEM education, prioritizing geographic areas where the company operates. GM evaluates each proposal on a case-by-case basis and does not limit the amount of funding that may be made available.
Best Buy Community Grants/scholarships
Best Buy provides various community grants. As for specific education-related purposes, the company offers scholarships for current high school students in grades 9-12. Students must be planning to attend a full-time undergraduate course of study.
The school must be an accredited two or four-year institution. This includes vocational-technical schools. Interested eligible students should apply early. Best Buy annually awards 1,000 students scholarships of $1,000. The deadline is February 16th annually. Requirements include:

Michigan Schools Can Soon Apply For School Safety Grants
The shootings in Oxford and Uvalde have once again made school safety top-of-mind for state legislators and educators. Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a bill last week, allocating $97,000,000 to school security. Schools will be able to apply for $2,000 per building, which would be used to pay professional inspectors to assess building safety.
The intent here is for this grant money to assist school district administrators in identifying weak points in terms of keeping their buildings safe and secure, said MARESA Superintendent Dr. Greg Nyen.
With only one certified and credentialed inspector in the U.P., Nyen also said it is important for all eligible U.P. schools to receive funding. The application process isnt finalized, but district superintendents will eventually be able to apply on behalf of qualifying buildings in their districts.
All of our buildings have different needs, different layouts, and different populations. To have somebody come in and help us differentiate the needs of the different buildings would be fairly expensive, Sedgwick said.
Over time, MAPS has made its buildings more secure through single entry points and electric key fobs. However, Sedgwick said his schools are still in need of security updates.
The more we can do, as far as looking at this comprehensively as a community function, I think the better off well be because identifying whatever a threat is goes well beyond just what we can do within the school walls, said Sedgwick.

Children Of Veterans Tuition Grant
The Children of Veterans Tuition Grant distributes around one-million dollars annually, to recognize sacrifices made by Michigan armed forces staffers. Previously called Education of Children of Veterans, the program extends tuition forgiveness for children of deceased or disabled members of the U.S. armed services. The following conditions apply to Veteran’s Grants:
- Applicants are 16-26 years old
- Residents of the state for at least one year prior to application
- Natural or adopted child of the veteran sponsor
- Step-children do not qualify
- Veteran is a legal resident of Michigan
Awards are valued dependent of each student’s circumstances, but the maximum annual disbursal for full-time students is $2800. Benefits are available for four-years, provided eligibility is maintained, and each participant is entitled to a maximum of $11,200 over the course of a four-year college education.

Schools Across Michigan To Receive $10 Million In Safety Grants

— State officials say $10 million is being awarded to 150 schools in Michigan to improve the safety and security of the buildings, students and staff.
According to a press release, the funding from the Competitive School Safety Grant Program is awarded to 57 local school districts, 14 intermediate school districts, 40 nonpublic schools and 39 public school academies.
The schools have until July 1, 2023, to spend the money.
“These grant awards will provide the resources needed by many schools throughout our state to ensure students have a safe learning environment,” said MSP Director Col. Joe Gasper. “The review committee gave priority to proposals that sought to secure exterior access points at school buildings, as it is considered one of the best and most cost-effective ways to improve safety and security.”
Officials say more than 330 applications were submitted, requesting about $35 million. The applications were reviewed by a committee including members of the Michigan State Police, Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, Sheriffs’ Association, state Department of Education, Association of Non-Public Schools, Michigan Emergency Management Association, charter schools and school security personnel.

The Michigan Tuition Incentive Program or TIP is designed to encourage individuals to complete high school. The program requires that eligible students qualify for 24 months of Medicaid coverage. The Michigan Student Scholarships and Grants, also known as SSG, distributes notifications to eligible state students. Financially needy applicants are targeted, so FAFSA results are required. The program was founded in 1987, and in 2011 assisted more than sixteen-thousand students, with over thirty-five million dollars worth of tuition relief. In 2013 they administered $94,552,160 to assist Michigan students with postsecondary educational expenses.

Grand Rapids Community Fund
The Grand Rapids Community Fund is a non-profit organization that provides a privately-funded grant for eligible students to attend a college or other institute of higher learning in the state of Michigan.
The awarding of grants is generally limited to students from Kent County. There are a few exceptions, but mostly grants are restricted to Kent County applicants. The online application also enters students into various scholarship contests.
The deadline for submission various, but generally applications may be filed starting on January 1st of each year. While the grants are restricted to a certain county, each scholarship has different eligibility rules and award amounts.

ACS-Hach Professional Development Grant
Applications Open: October 15 – January 4 Annually
The ACS-Hach Professional Development Grant is administered by the American Chemical Society and intended specifically to support high school chemistry teachers in accessing opportunities to further their training, such as conferences or professional courses. Applicants can request as much as $1,500 in grant funding.
Dollar General Literacy Foundation Youth Literacy Grants

These grants are awarded to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations with the goal of helping students who are reading below grade level or are having trouble reading. They are intended to support literacy program implementation or expansion and to fund purchasing literacy program supplies, including new technology.

Requirements For The Children Of Veterans Tuition Grant
Participating veterans must meet one of the following program qualifications to be eligible for the grant:

- Listed as MIA in another country by the US government
Each student applicant must meet the following qualifications to be eligible for this program:

Lawsuit Claims Us Education Department Is Trying To Lessen Charter Schools Access To Grant Monies Not Facilitate It
The Michigan Association of Public School Academies, a charter school association, sued the U.S. Department of Education in federal court Wednesday. It alleges that new federal guidelines are a sneak attack on charter schools, and are being used to lessen charter schools access to grants rather than allow for it.
The lawsuit was filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation in the Western District of Michigan. A Washington, D.C. nonprofit, The Thomas B. Fordham Institute, is a co-plaintiff.
The 31-page complaint names the U.S. Department of Education, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona and Ruth Ryder, an assistant secretary in the department, as defendants.
In its lawsuit, MAPSA claims that a new federal rule, effective as of July 6, has worked to cut off charter schools access to grant funds set aside specifically for their work.
The department has set out new criteria for grant awards that are designed to decrease charter school programs, and ensure that failing public schools dont have to compete with innovative alternatives, the lawsuit says.
The departments sneak attack on the charter school program, and on the students caught in the middle, must be set aside by this court.
The lawsuit claims that the department violated the Administrative Procedures Act, a law which establishes rules federal agencies must follow when they issue regulations. MAPSA also claims that the department also violated the Constitution.
