Topps Steve Young Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Value: $13,500

Collectors either love or hate the 1986 Topps football card design.

The green borders with white stripes meant to represent a football field can be great for some but odd for others.

Although the Jerry Rice rookie card in this same set is no doubt the most popular and sought after, PSA 10 Gem Mint examples of the Steve Young rookie card can actually cost you more.

Its card #374 placing it at the back end of the 396-card set making it a bit tougher to locate in PSA 10 condition.

Most Valuable Football Cards: The All

Grant Hill Rookie Card 1994

The most valuable football cards in the hobby can easily fetch upper five and six figure price levels.

Collectors simply go crazy over some of these cards.

Scarcity and fierce auction bidding competition can keep hobbyists searching for some of them for years.

If youre lucky enough to own one or more cards on this list then youve got something special.

While not as valuable in general as baseball cards, theres no question that collectors are willing to pay big bucks to get their hands on the cards on this list.

To build this list, we relied on PSAs Sports Market Report online price guide to include any football card they estimate to be worth more than $15,000 on the open market.

Lets jump right in!

Ultra Grant Hill Rc #239

This Ultra card is almost the exact opposite from the previous card it is all image, and little to no graphics.

And thats what many card collectors prefer crisp images with some elegant and subtle graphical elements on the card, which makes for a premium feel.

But despite that more premium feel, the card is jokingly easy to get today, and also quite cheap. While you will struggle to find a decent graded card, you will be able to find many ungraded cards on the market.

As always, err on the side of caution with ungraded cards since you dont really know what youre getting, and its always better to ask the seller twice as to ensure youre not buying a knock-off.

Topps Ozzie Newsome Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Value: $16,000

This one may be one of the biggest surprises on the list but scarcity is key here with this Hall of Famers rookie card.

Newsome had a standout career as a tight end for the Browns and helped lead them to three AFC Championship games in the late 1980s.

The bright yellow background gives the card some nice pop.

With only two PSA 10 copies currently in circulation, dont be surprised if you see them top $15,000 if they even come up for sale at all.

Topps Felt Backs Joe Paterno Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 9 Value: $17,500

Controversy rapidly overtook Paterno late in his coaching career at Penn State but his 1950 Topps Felt Backs rookie is still incredibly valuable.

Its the only trading card to depict Paterno as a player and measures only 7/8 by 1 7/16.

The back side of each of the tiny cards in this rare set of collegiate players show a small felt pennant from each players school.

Flair Grant Hill Rc #213

Shawn Kemp vs. Rookie Grant Hill

With this Flair card, I personally like the golden writing thats present on the card, as well as the two action shots of Grant Hill.

The golden writing gives the card a premium feel, but its certainly not a premium-priced card. The highest the card will go in terms of value is less than a hundred dollars, which is the magic of the in full effect for you.

The young Grant Hill here on the image shows his athleticism and physicality, which he was famed for and allowed him to earn comparisons even with Michael Jordan.

He also had the ability to handle the ball like not many other players, which became prominent throughout his career with the Pistons and also with the Suns later on.

Topps Mike Ditka Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Value: $35,000

When you think of football players who just looked flat out tough and mean, Ditka is surely high on the list.

After refining the tight end position as a player, Ditka also went on to a successful coaching career with the Bears.

The 1962 Topps design is creative in its layout but the black borders leave it prone to easily showing chipping and wear.

Ditka has made enormous contributions to the game both on and off the field and his rookie card is a great one to collect.

Topps Tony Dorsett Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 10 Value: $11,000

The 1977 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Tony Dorsett would have a standout career for the Dallas Cowboys on his way to four Pro Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl victory.

Originally thought to be too small, Dorsett proved doubters wrong throughout his career demonstrating extreme versatility and explosiveness.

The 1978 Topps design is fairly straightforward in appearance but nonetheless Dorsetts rookie is a great-looking and important football card.

/95 Skybox Emotion Grant Hill Rookie Card #28

The Skybox Emotion was preferred by many collectors because of its glossy finish and the foil that goes together with it.

This card features a nice action image of Grant Hill, which shows his athleticism, again.

The great thing about this card is that there are many cards available on the market, making it easy to obtain if youre looking for a cheap card that has that premium feel to it.

There are many ungraded cards, although graded cards tend to go for several hundred dollars if in the top conditions.

Finest Gold Atomic Refractor #269

Estimated BGS 10 Value: $5,000

Estimated PSA 10 Value: $3,500

Finest products remain heavy collector favorites across the hobby and this gold atomic refractor of Kobe Bryant’s 1996 “Heir” subset issue is no exception. The cards were distributed with a thin plastic coating that was meant to protect the extremely condition sensitive fronts. The imagery on this card is one of the more exciting of Bryant’s rookies as it shows him going up for a reverse slam.

Bowman Otto Graham Rookie Card

Estimated PSA 9 Value: $13,500

Graham only played ten years but he made them count while leading the Cleveland Browns to six division and three NFL Championship titles from 1946 to 1955.

A true offensive force, Graham could attack both through the air and on the ground.

Staining on the reverse side and centering tend to be the biggest condition obstacles for collectors of this card.

Its a key to the 1950 Bowman set and the only one to make this list.

Ultra Platinum Medallion #p52

Grant Hill’s Best 33 Plays Of His Career

Estimated PSA 10 Value: $3,500

The design of this Kobe rookie is also exciting as it features the young legend floating gracefully through the air for a layup accompanied by electrifying text and font. The borders can be extremely susceptible to showing wear and chipping. The base version of the card as well as the scarce “Gold Medallion” and scarcer “Platinum Medallion” parallels all used the same imagery but are easily distinguished by the text coloration on the front.

Flair Showcase Legacy Row 2 #31

Estimated PSA 10 Value: $3,000

The Row 2 or “Style” Legacy Collection parallel is another extremely valuable card from that set. The last PSA 10 version of this card sold for around $2,500 in 2014 so I’m guessing it would go for much more in today’s market. Moreover, there are actually fewer Row 2’s that have been graded PSA 10 than either the Row 1 or Row 0 cards making them a bit more rare. And that should boost the price more in theory. Of the three from this set, this one is my favorite because I think the imagery is much more exciting than on the others.

Grant Hill Cut Signature Exemplar

Grant Hill Key Signature Attributes: An authentic Grant Hill signature autograph will exhibit several distinguishing characteristics, regardless of the item signed or when it was signed. Look for the following signature features:

  • Signed on a relatively even horizontal plane, the signature may exhibit a slight downward angle.
  • The letters lean to the right at about 50 degrees.
  • The letters “G” and “H” are the main component as many other letters are implied.
  • The letter “G” consists of two parts, made all in one pen stroke the first part looks like a printed capital letter “M” and the other looks similar to a cursive capital “J.”
  • Out of this letter is a line with a slight squiggle in it, implying the letters “r-a-n-t.”
  • The pen continues into a letter “H” formed with two parallel lines. Again, the stroke appears like a cursive capital letter “J” as in the first name.
  • A dot is usually present implying the letter “i.”
  • The letters “l-l” are not written.

National Chicle Bronko Nagurski Rookie Card

    Estimated PSA 9 Value: $750,000

Bronko Nagurski was one of the most feared runners the game has ever seen.

One of the NFLs original Hall of Fame inductees in 1963, his 1935 National Chile rookie card is also the most valuable football card in the hobby.

This set is notoriously difficult to put together and since his is a high number card in the set it is even tougher.

Nagurski played for the Chicago Bears from 1930-1937 but is shown on the card in his University of Minnesota uniform where he was an All-American.

    National Chicle Luke Johnsos

    GRANT HILL 1994

    Estimated PSA 9 Value: $14,000

Another card from the legendary 1935 National Chicle set, this scarce high number card is another case of a cards value being driven based on a printing error.

If you look at the bottom right corner of the card, youll notice that Luke Johnsons last name is actually spelled Johnsos.

Nevertheless, the card still possesses great imagery and plenty of action.

Sports Cards: 10 Most Valuable Basketball Rookie Cards Of The 1990s

    SUSAN STERNER/Associated Press

Let’s say you did some basketball card collecting during the 1990s, and now you’re revisiting your old collection and wondering if anything you have is valuable.

    We’ve got you covered!

Ahead, we’ve taken a closer look at the 10 most valuable rookie cards of the 1990s. A few important parameters for our list before we get started:

    • No short-printed, parallel or autographed cards: The goal here was to identify cards that are valued because of the player on them, not because of their scarcity or an accompanying autograph. That notably excluded the rookie cards of Dirk Nowitzki, Vince Carter and Paul Pierce from the 1998-99 SP Authentic set, which had a print run of just 3,500.
    • One card per player: In an effort to provide some variety to the list, each player only appears once. Otherwise, this would have just been a countdown of the most valuable Kobe Bryant rookie cards.
    • Rankings based on PSA 9 value: Included with each card is its raw, PSA 9 and PSA 10 value, based on recent eBay sales. The rankings are ordered by PSA 9 value, with raw value serving as the tiebreaker when needed.

    Grant Hill Rookie Cards

With the 3rd overall pick in the 1st Round of the 1994 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons selected Grant Hill from Duke University. He has 15 official rookie cards and 8 parallels.

I recently heard something that made me fact-check its accuracy. I heard Grant Hill is the first, former Duke basketball player to enter the Basketball Hall of Fame. What!? With all that talent Duke University has developed over the decades? Well, its true friends.

He had an outstanding college career. Playing all four years and earning two NCAA Championships! 1994 1st Team All-American. 1994 Player of the Year. 1993 NABC Defensive Player of the Year too.

Grants Early Success in the NBA

Grant Hill was the 3rd Overall Pick of the 1994 Draft and the timing couldnt have been better. With Michael Jordan announcing his first retirement in 1994 it just left a vacuum in the league and fans everywhere were looking for that next star to replace MJ and Grant Hill fit the bill nicely.

He answered the call and hit the ground running and dominating opponents. Only five months into his rookie season he led the All-Star votes as a starter and as a rookie, something that had never been done before.

The Injury & Re-injury of an Ankle

But in April 2000 came a devastating injury. A sprained ankle that at first glance was just a typical sprain with limited bench time. He came back from that injury not fully healed and his game wasnt quite the same.
